About

Tara Fracalossi was born in Jersey City, NJ and grew up on the Jersey Shore. 

 

She holds an MFA from the University at Albany, a BA in studio art from the University of Vermont and attended Syracuse University in Florence, Italy.  

 

Solo and group exhibitions include: Spring Break Art Fair, NY; Smack Mellon, Brooklyn; the Center for Book Arts, NY; Masters&Pelavin, NY; the Cyprian Majernik Gallery, in Bratislava, Slovakia; Kingsgate Gallery, London; the Kunsthalle Exnergasse, WUK, Vienna, Austria; Fotofest, Houston, Tx;  the Hyde Collection Museum, Glens Falls, NY; The Center for Photography at Woodstock, Woodstock, NY; LABspace, Hillsdale, NY, Albany Center Gallery, Albany NY,  and the Storefront Artists’ Project, Pittsfield, Ma.  

Fracalossi has received two Photographer’s Fund Fellowships from the Center for Photography at Woodstock and several Special Opportunity Stipend grants from the New York Foundation for the Arts. She was the 2016 recipient of the Mona Ruth Brickman Artist of the Year Award from Albany Center Gallery, Albany, NY.  She is the founding director of the Teaching Gallery at Hudson Valley Community College, SUNY in Troy, NY where she is Associate Professor of Fine Arts and a 2017 recipient of the State University of New York Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching.    

 

Fracalossi lives and works in Columbia County, NY with her husband, artist Thomas Lail.
